I am excited to recap my recent trip and share my 5 places to explore your first time in San Diego, California. I love to travel and explore new places. Whether big or small I am always looking for some type of adventure when I am in a new city. I was visiting San Diego for a training with work. It was going to be for 4 days so I decided to make the most of the trip and get out to explore some of the city. I am sharing 6 places I think visitors should explore if they are visiting San Diego for the first time.
6 Places to Explore Your First Time in San Diego, California.
First things first the flight from Dallas, Texas to San Diego, California is about 3 hours. This is a breeze when flying Southwest. I am a huge fan of Southwest and love to snag their Wanna-Get-Away tickets. I also love to travel early in the mornings which helps with airport traffic and I get to my destination just as the city is waking up. As soon as we touched down in the sunny San Diego we were a bit hungry so we jumped in our 2018 Toyota Camry LXE and heading to find something to fill our stomachs.
1. DONUT BAR
As a disclaimer whenever I am traveling I do not follow all of the rules like a healthy breakfast (what fun is in that anyway?!) With that being said we zoomed over to try out the Donut Bar. We were not disappointed! There was a small line but it moved quickly and the hardest part was actually making a selection of which doughnut I wanted to try. Okay, more like which doughnut(s) I wanted to try because I could not leave there with only one! I love fresh fruit in the morning so I tried the Strawberry Split that was a large doughnut sprinkled with cinnamon sugar, whipped cream, and fresh strawberries. Yes, it was delicious!
2) SAN DIEGO ZOO
I could not be in San Diego and not visit the world-renowned zoo. This had to be the part of the trip that I was the most excited about! I have heard so many great things about the San Diego Zoo that I had to get inside and see for myself. Once again, we were not disappointed! This was by far one of the cleanest, happiest and liveliest zoos I have ever visited. I wanted to learn as much as I could while there so we jumped on the Group Tour Bus which gave us a quick tour around the zoo grounds with brief narratives by the bus driver. This to be extremely helpful because I was able to learn tidbits of information about the animals as well as the zoos’ conservation efforts. One thing that I was excited to hear was that the San Diego Zoo uses 100% recycled plastic bottles and spoons for the straws that are in the featured cups. That means that if you leave them in the sun…they will melt. Now, how cool is that!?
3) C LEVEL LOUNGE
After the zoo when cruised to our Airbnb, showered and changed clothes to head out for a bite to eat. We chose C Level Lounge for our cocktails and dinner. I found this lounge to be the special pick of the night because of the views and the seafood (homegirl is from the south, I love my seafood!). There are views of the Downtown San Diego skyline with boats zooming by as we enjoyed our seafood. I had the lobster mac-n-cheese. Yes, you read that right! And Lucas enjoyed the King Crab salad and a side of my mac-n-cheese. We can not say enough good things about this lounge. It was a wonderful experience.
4. SUNSET CLIFF BEACH
There is nothing better than waking up with the sun on your face. Or going to a place to get sun on your face first thing to start your day! This is how we ended up at Sunset Cliff Beach. I wanted to see more water and feel more sun rays on my face. We found ourselves walking on the cliffs, sitting and feeling the wind. The waves were alive and the sound of the water crushing along the cliffs reminded me of just how beautiful life is. As we soaked up all the rays we started to think about lunch. And of course, it made for some beautiful photos as well.
** An added tip when traveling**
If you are going to be exploring a city with attractions that are spread out you want to have a vehicle that can handle everything. The 2018 Toyota Camry is that vehicle. It was very spacious inside and in the trunk as well. The best part was the safety features that this vehicle is equipped with. Sometimes when traveling to new areas being on the road means being more aware because you don’t know how the locals drive. The Toyota Camry has safety features that kept us safe throughout our travels. From the front, side and rear cameras to lane change technology that will warn you if you are drifting into another lane. When you want to talk about safety, this is one smooth ride!
5. LIBERTY PUBLIC MARKET
I wish I would have more time to explore this little gem! There are so many different small shops and businesses within this market that I was upset I couldn’t explore them all. I love to explore places that are so unique and different. Most of all when they are filled with small businesses! After walking around a few times we decided on a place to eat. We were able to taste of The Wicket Lobster and it was wickedly delicious! There are all types of food and desserts to try within the public market. So when you visit San Diego don’t pass this gem by!
