If you want to learn how to take your modeling to the next level and not waste any more time, learn your model type.
Research is one of the most importing things a model must do. Research is defined by the Merriam-Webster Encyclopedia as, “Careful and diligent search.” Research is about learning, one must study a craft in order to master it. Even the beautiful women that we might think are just born as a perfect model had to learn. Everyone has to learn something and when you are starting out as a model, research is your best friend.
Take some time out on your weekend to do some studying. Go to your local book store, pick up some magazines, buy your favorite Starbucks beverage, sit your little tootie-bootie down and start studying! Use magazines and other publications as reference guides for the type of images you want to do. Use everything in the publication, from the fashion advice section to the commercial ads. Look at those images and see what you want to become so you can work on getting those types of images in your portfolio.
By studying you will then see exactly what type of photo shoot you will need to set up and you can find a photographer that will be able to capture the looks that you will NEED.
You will continue to hear me stress research throughout my blogs that is just how important it is. I tell every person that has approached me for advice, to research. Find out exactly what you want to do as a model and in the industry, and learn about that category. You don’t want to waste your time by not getting the type of photos that will land you the jobs you want to do and get paid for. No, modeling is not about the money in my eyes, but who doesn’t enjoy doing what you LOVE to do in life while paying the bills at home? I’m just saying, keeping it real.
When you study your craft you are able to aim higher and higher on each shoot, one will be able to see the progress and change. Take my portfolio for example, you can go back to my very first photo shoot till my last photo shoot as of date and you will see the change. That only came because I did my research. Yes, it took me a while to see what categories I wanted to focus on, and that’s fine. As long as you find what you want to work towards and study it to become better.
Now go out and hit those books and when you are done come over to Instagram and tell me what you found out about your model type. I will love to hear all about it!
