When I began my modeling career I had no idea what I was doing and knew less about how to start. I began taking photos and thought that it would be a hobby. But as my passion started to grow I finally accepted the fact that I wanted to really pursue modeling as a career.
Have you considered these things when considering a Modeling Career?
Now that I have learned from more than a few mistakes I know that there are things that each aspiring model must consider when considering pursuing modeling as a full-time career. Today I am sharing 4 things that every aspiring and freelance model should ask…and answer about pursuing this type of career. Let’s get into the good stuff!
1. Do I have a flexible schedule?
Majority of aspiring and freelance models are working full-time at a current job or taking classes in school, some are doing both. These are obligations that are in their daily schedule. A modeling career will require a flexible schedule because most casting calls are posted with less than 24-48 hour notice. This will require you have a schedule that you can be flexible and move some things around or reschedule appointments and meetings. After you are signed to a modeling agency this is even more important because your agent will need to know when you are available to ensure that you will attend all scheduled appointments.
2. Do you have reliable transportation?
Showing up on time to castings, go-see, and auditions are very important. Having solid transportation to get to these appointments is important. If you have dependable transportation that is great! But if you currently don’t have this, it is okay. Consider if you live in a city that has a public transportation system such as trains, subway, bus, taxi or even Uber. Discover all of the transportation services that are reliable and close to you that will make it even easier for you to make all of your modeling appointments. Bonus ** As soon as you receive a casting notice make sure you GPS your location to the casting location so you know how much traveling time you will need and if you need to add a few extra minutes for traffic.**
3. Do you have a Confident or Conceited attitude?
Pursuing this type career is not easy. Having strong confidence and solid modeling skills that make you comfortable in front of the camera are very important. Knowing the difference between healthy confidence and a conceited attitude is something all aspiring models need to understand. Having a conceited attitude can keep photographers and agencies from wanting to work with you and therefore not growing your modeling career. Keeping a positive and resilient attitude towards your modeling career pursuit is more pleasing and helps make it easier for industry professionals to call you back over and over again!
4. Are you dedicated?
Every career path requires different attributes, a modeling career requires a dedicated and hardworking attitude. Very few models will start their career with receiving, Yes!, as soon as they attend their first casting. This means that you will hear a sum of, No’s, as a reply. But this doesn’t mean that it will not ever happen, it just means not right now. When you hear these replies you have to stay dedicated to your career and get right back at it! You don’t want to start doubting yourself or your skills. In place of this stay dedicated and resilient. You have to have a hardworking and dedicated attitude to stick to it and do your part in pursuing your modeling career.
A modeling career can be very rewarding and fun. Taking the time to consider some important things, in the beginning, will help you set your pursuit up for success.
