Let’s be honest hearing someone tell us that there are ways to become more confident is easy. But we all know that confidence comes from within self.
A question I received from an aspiring model:
How do you pursue your dream when there are so many out there? I mean how do you stay yourself and get noticed? – Markeeta
Markeeta, this post is for you and every other aspiring and networking model out there. You stay authentic.
How do I get photographers to notice me and my potential so I may have the opportunity to model for that photo shoot or to work with that brand, etc. Over the years of my modeling career, I cant tell you how many times I have tried to be someone else. To live my dream as someone else, to take photos, to pose like, to look like someone else on the outside. It didn’t last very long because at some point I got bored and noticed that it wasn’t a successful choice. I know that we all can get caught up in social media. I mean lets face it. Every day there is a new trend, a new style, a new makeup look, a new hairstyle, a new way to take photos. I mean the list goes on and one doesn’t it? So how do you stay true to who you are and whom you want the world to see? Be you, all of you. Take the time to ask yourself these 3 questions
1) What do I love?
2) What do I dislike?
3) What do I want to share with the world?
– What do I love? Think of the things that bring a smile to your face. When asking yourself these questions really think about things on every level. Find what things you are passionate about. You might find that there are something that you might think you like but deep down you really aren’t a fan of them. You might only like them because a friend does. This is about you, so make a list of the things that you know you like, have a passion for, and have a love for. Then you are on your way.
– What do I dislike? What are some things that you do not enjoy? I have a saying, you must stand for something or you will fall for everything. My dad used to tell me this all of the time. So when it comes to things that I dislike I usually don’t stand by them. Are there things that you don’t agree with, things that might be popular with others but for yo, it’s not your cup of tea. Write a list of things you do not like. Remembered this list.
– What do you want to share with the world? Ahh, the most important question. What do you want others to see when they see you, or your social media profile? Do you want them to see a strong and determined model? Maybe you want them to see a creative blogger on the rise. Or even a bold entrepreneur who is creating a new initiative to make the world a better place? Whatever your purpose is write it down. So you know for yourself, within yourself why you are doing what you are doing. Once you know what you want to share with the world you can start sharing the things you love, deleting the things you dislike and start walking in your purpose. The more you are true to yourself then the more the right things will flow your way.
Being authentic can don’t come before you know who you are. The meaning of Authentic is; of undisputed origin, genuine.
There is no one just like you, but you must choose to be you. Tell me what are some struggles you face with your social media?
I recently had the pleasure of meeting several top black fashion bloggers in Dallas. We united together to express our individual fashion style but more importantly to inspire others to see how powerful we all can be when we stand together. With all that has happened right here at home in the streets of Dallas we wanted to bring something positive back to them. Blogger genius Melody with blingaholic88.com created this amazing opportunity to bring a community of black bloggers together. It was an honor to be asked to be apart and I look forward to the changes this movement creates!
The ladies and their esteemed blogs standing with me in the photo above are as follows. Now for the fashion!
I was able to explore a 90’s inspired look with bell sleeved blouse and Levi jeans.
As soon as I laid eyes on this bell sleeved blouse I just had to HAVE IT!
Not just because it took me down memory lane of fashion in the 90’s but because the details added so much character to it. The teardrop detail in the front and back with a thin rope that ties in the back and has extra to hang down my back! OMG! Like really?! There was no way I was leaving this on the hanger! I didn’t stop there I added and 100% authentic lizard skinned belt. These items were discovered and purchased at the Refinery Consignment Boutique in Dallas. The owner Camille is the sweetest ever! Camille does an amazing job at stocking her boutique with one of a kind pieces regardless of your style. When ever you are in the Dallas Design District swing by her boutique!
I do believe that every girl should have a pair of good ole fashioned Levi jeans in her wardrobe! I felt that it was only right to keep the 90’s vibe going and finished my look with my thrifted Levi’s from Haltom Thrift in Fort Worth, Texas. (one of my favorite thrift stores!)
Finishing touches are a pair of sunnies and faux patent leather hand pouch from Forever21 and cheetah heels from Charlotte Russe. I had so much fun putting this outfit together! It has a little piece of my personality in every part!
Now more take aways from the Fashion Power Exchange! Each and every one of these ladies are beautiful and were a pleasure to work with. Make sure you check out their blogs!
