Modeling isn’t about how big you can be. It is about how you can make them feel what you are showing them. – De’Ana Fierce
When I first started this modeling journey I thought it was all about the big poses. You know I wanted to look just like the models on Americas Next Top Model! I quickly noticed that that wasn’t the type of posing the models where doing on the billboards or magazines. They didn’t pose like that on the runway either. Yet they are still able to look bold, beautiful and fierce. I asked myself what is it that ignites me when I see these advertisements?
It’s the way they make me feel. I look at the photo and I start to feel bold, I start to feel beautiful and I start to feel freaking Fierce!
Modeling is not all about looking pretty; a good model takes it beyond the looks and goes deeper than the surface. Some models struggle with posing or looking confident in their photos because they are so focused on ‘what to look like’ This is where taking on the role of a silent actor can help boost your posing ability. Instead of focusing on what you want to look like try focusing on the emotion that you want to portray. How do you want the view to feel when they see this photo? Do you want them to feel happy, to feel like laughing, do you want them to stop and think about something? All of these emotions can be ‘modeled’ in your photos.
If this still sounds difficult you can pull out your favorite playlist and listen to the music that helps you to feel a certain way. Music is ALWAYS a must at a phototshoot. Music has a way of getting into whom we are and therefore we can become more fluid in who we want to express.
