I love receiving kind and thoughtful comments on my photos. Keeping it real with you is what I am going to do.
So to be honest I have not always taken great photos.
When I started modeling I made plenty of mistakes. I want to share with you the top 5 mistakes I made when taking photos and how you can avoid them.
1.) LACK OF CONFIDENCE
Starting out in anything new can be a bit nerve wrecking. Being in front of the camera was a new experience for me. I quickly realized that I wasn’t as confident as I thought I was. When having your photo taken you get the chance to see yourself at a different view. Looking back through my photos I could see the my lack of confidence I was portraying because I looked scared and uncomfortable. I knew I had to start strengthening my confidence if I wanted to continue to be in front of the camera.
2.) NOT RESEARCHING
I honestly believed that being a model was just taking cute photographs.
This was the beginning and oh boy! I have certainly changed my perception about that. After each photoshoot I had I would always have high expectations of all of my images coming out perfect.
All I had to do was show up and look cute, right? WRONG! I did not look as professional as I thought I would.
I was doing a lot of things wrong and not knowing what was expected of a model was one of them. I had to start doing more research into modeling to find out how to do the job right. Finding out what type of model I wanted to become and the type of photographs I would need in my portfolio are just a few things I begin learning more about. I had to learn the ways to become the model that I needed to be.
3.) NOT PREPARED
Showing up on a set unprepared can be completely embarrassing.
I was not taking my time seriously.
I would wait to the very last minute and some times the same day to prepare and pack my bags for a photoshoot. When I arrived I was always late and did not have the essential items packed. On top of this I was stressed trying to search through my things nothing was organized. This showed the photographer that I was not professional and I certainly wasn’t ready for the big leagues.
4.) CRAZY ARMS
What is worse then not knowing how to do something? Showing that you really don’t know how to do it. Because I wasn’t confident in myself and my lack of researching I was making all of the bad decisions while in front of the camera. Positioning my arms and hands in ways that made me look like I was a crazy statue.
Trust me when I say I have some photos that would leave you asking me, “What were you thinking?”
Thats the point, I wasn’t thinking of the overall picture I was just trying to do something and that was wrong. When you are in front of the camera you have to keep the big picture in mind. Knowing the placement of your arms and hands can take a photo from crazy to calm. Keep reading to find out how to grab my free workbook on 5 ways to look better in your photographs.
5.) CHOOSING POSES THAT MADE ME LOOK SHORTER
As a petite model I know how important it is to look taller in your photographs. I know this now, I did not know this in the beginning and I was making one of the hugest mistakes in my pictures.
Since I didn’t know the correct way to position my body in my photographs I was making choices that made me look shorter.
From my shoulders all the way to the placement of my feet. It was obvious that I had no idea what I was doing. I needed to change this quickly and I did so by being more aware of my body positions.
So I have shared with you 5 of the mistakes that I have made when taking photos. I want to save all of you the hassle of making the same mistakes that I have. With my free eBook you will be ahead of the game and on your way to look’n great!
